Iris Venn v002 — **character direction approved for continued iteration**; **not promoted**. Iris reads closer to field-interpretation command anchor than v001, but **generated placeholder rectangles remain a major pipeline failure** for art-only sheets.

## What works (character direction)

- **Less rifle-forward:** front view holds tablet/slate and sight-card; no dominant tube/rifle in primary hand.
- **Optics-first:** binoculars on harness; equipment panel shows folded scope + gridded sight card (strong identity anchors).
- **Calmer read:** expression and upright posture read more procedural than v001 action-hero intensity.
- **Command interpretation:** map/slate + sight-card action pose support field interpretation / measurement, not sniper poster.
- **Document family:** grayscale pencil prototype sheet layout matches Rowan/core unit archive.
- **Distinct from Rowan:** lean field layers, survey kit—not command-bulk coat/slate clone.
- **Doctrine fit:** grounded, observation-adjacent command presence—not mystic seer, sci-fi analyst, or Observation Detail clone.

## Major issue (prompt / pipeline — not character)

- v002 drew **many empty annotation rectangles / placeholder callout boxes** with leader lines terminating in hollow UI-like panels.
- These are **not acceptable** as layout truth for deterministic overlay (`reference-sheet-typography.md`, `reference-sheet-text-overlay-workflow.md`).
- **Root cause (2026-05-18 review):** prior overlay-ready wording asked for “blank annotation areas,” “empty label boxes,” and “blank callout spaces,” which the image model interpreted as drawn containers.
- **Prompt/rule correction pass** applied after this review; **do not regenerate** until next art run uses updated guidance.
- Overlay on v002 copy may still proceed using **preset coordinates**, not AI box positions.

## Minor issues

- Header band includes faint horizontal rules but is not fully blank—overlay headers still required.
- Action pose uses binoculars (acceptable); equipment panel scope + sight card remain canonical detail drawing.
